May 15, 2009, Newsletter Issue #333: Dads And Daughters

Tip of the Week

Research has shown that a woman´s self-image and the way she perceives and relates to men has a lot to do with her early experiences with her father. After all, fathers and/or male caregivers are the first men that daughters ever love. They teach their daughters how men act and what sort of treatment their daughters should expect from men in general. Thus, a father´s influence, or lack thereof, can be profound. Studies have confirmed that girls with little or no contact with their fathers are more likely to drop out of school, become involved in drug and alcohol abuse, and become pregnant as teens. Here are a couple of ideas for dads to have fun with their daughters and be involved.

To make your daughter feel special you might take her to work with you on occasion. Introduce her to your co-workers, give her a tour, and let her hang out and see you in action. Also, take her out on a ´date´. Make reservations, dress up, open the car door for her, pull her chair out for her, and show her what´s its like to be in the company of a real gentleman.
