Is it okay to talk with my kids like I would my best friend?

Remember You are the Grown-up

Be friends with your children, but always make sure you maintain the parental role as well. There are some things that you should not talk about with your children. Remember they are children growing up in this world. Don't place the burden of the world on their shoulders by detailing everything that is wrong in your life such as having a bad day at work, or sharing details of your finances. They shouldn't be concerned with whether or not their parent is going to lose their job or that the bill collectors are knocking down the door. Let them be kids and enjoy life. You be the adult and handle it as an adult. Anybody got any Ben and Jerry's?!!!

Sometimes im not sure if im acting mature. most of the time when im stress i always talk loud to my son and yells at him. he's almost 12 and he has been having trouble in school lately. and I have talk to him several times to behave in school and i also ask him does he has a problem, but he said he dont and most of the time the answer i would get from him is "I dont Know". he's hooked on chatting on email with female friends and he spend atleast 5 hrs chatting and when u ask him to stop he answers back. I do feel bad whenever i yelled at him coz hes not listening to me but what is the best thing to do, so my son will start to be responsible with his studying and stop focusing on chatting and just play, play all the time?
